These are small impressions of the Ötztaler Urweg in Tyrol. A long-distance hiking trail in 12 or 13 stages. The 6th stage has a variant for less experienced hikers. So you don't have to hike through high alpine terrain from Obergurgl to Vent but instead you can enjoy a breathtaking lake landscape at 2500 m (8200 ft) altitude with the highlights "Soomsee" and "Nedersee" (the one in the picture above). On this path you hike from Obergurgl to Zwieselstein, about 15 km and about 5 to 6 hours if you want to completely enjoy the landscape and lakes. It's an intermediate hiking level.

To reach Lake Soomsee you have to leave the signposted path of the Ötztal trail and follow the signs uphill towards Lake Soomsee. Even further up there is the Itlsee. From there you have a magnificent view of the plateau with the Soomsee and other small lakes. And you can enjoy all the beauty of this landscape.
To reach the Nedersee, you hike through really big stones. Again you have a great view of the plateau, the water and the surrounding mountains. When you arrive at the Nedersee, you should definitely take a break. And then: enjoy the silence! Surrounded by high mountains and the water in front of you and after a while you can feel the full power of nature.
hiking through the big stones
As with any hike in the mountains you should start early in the morning to have enough time at the lakes. It's an intermediate hike and needs some fitness and good shoes. Best you start your hike in Obergurgl and finish in Zwieselstein. With the hiking buses you can move between the villages.
